Factory Closure - Production Moved Abroad - 31 Jobs Lost
Alternator firm Markon Sawafuji in Oakham are to close its factory after 10 years, resulting in the loss of 31 jobs. The company is a joint venture between Cummins Generator Technologies in Stamford and Sawafuji in Japan. Production will now be moved to Mexico and Japan and the factory has been put on the market.

Plant Closure - 200 Lost Jobs - Transfer of production - 100 Jobs Gained
Bed manufacturer Silentnight has confirmed 100 new jobs will be created at its Barnoldswick base. Britainâ€™s biggest bedmaker, which was rescued from closure in May last year, has decided to focus production at its West Craven factory and, as a result, will close its Rest Assured plant in Batley by the end of April with the loss of 200 jobs. £1.15m funding secured - 12 new jobs - capital investment
Eco Plastics Ltd has secured £1.15m funding from not-for-profit lender WRAP to expand its Lincolnshire base. The expansion will allow the site to recycle an additional 15,000 tonnes of rigid plastic packaging each year. Bottle sorting and processing facilities will also be extended and 12 jobs will be created.

New rail depot approved - 44 acre site - Work starting summer 2012
Hitachi Rail has won planning approval for a rail depot at Stoke Gifford, Gloucestershire. The 44-acre site will create jobs and help improve local rail services when it becomes operational in 2016/17. Work is expected to start in summer 2012, ready for testing trains by the middle of 2015. Andy Barr is Hitachi head of maintenance.
