New contract secured secured for windfarm scheme - 1.5bn project
Staffordshire based electricity supplier ABB Ltd has been chosen by energy company Warwick Energy Limited, as their preferred supplier for the large offshore windfarm scheme Dudgeon, near to Cromer in Norfolk. The contract for the services is not expected to be signed until 2013, and is dependent on the 1.5bn project getting planning permission and securing funding.

Sunplus Technology contract secured - business expansion
Imagination Technologies Group, which develops system-on-chip intellectual property (IP), has entered into a licence agreement with Sunplus Technology. Sunplus will use IP from Imaginations PowerVR SGX graphics division to target the Home Entertainment market. In return, Imagination will receive licence and royalty fees. 2011 turnover £98m, 725 employees.

New carbon capture pilot scheme - Agreement with college
Power and automation technology group ABB has invested almost £1m and signed a ten-year agreement to support a new carbon capture pilot scheme. The company will work with Imperial College London to support the new carbon capture plant teaching facility and provide four summer placements for students.

Profits up 15% to 3.1bn dollars - improved outlook
US-based IBM recorded a 15% increase in 2012 first-quarter earnings helped by strong demand for its software services and expansion in emerging markets. Revenue remained steady at 24.7bn dollars. The company has increased its full-year target to at least 15 dollars adjusted earnings per shape from at least 14.85 dollars.

Major government contract secured - high performance computing centre
IBM has secured a major contract with the Science and Technology Facilities Council. IBM BlueGene/Q and iDataplex hardware will be used at a 30m International Centre of Excellence for Computational Science and Engineering in Daresbury, Cheshire.

IT outsourcing contract extended - Further five years
Taylor Wimpey has extended an IT outsourcing agreement with Logica for a further 5 years. The company has received IT services from Logica for almost a decade and signed a £30m, five-year outsourcing contract with them in 2008. Logica provides IT infrastructure management, application support, managed testing as well project delivery services.

Year end losses narrowed - Orders increase
Year-end losses have narrowed at Barrow-upon-Soar-based Image Scan Holdings. The x-ray specialist made a loss of £237,000 on a turnover of £2.17m for the year ending 30 September 2011.
