£60m order - 1016 machines for Brazilian Government
Excavator manufacturer JCB has secured a £60m order with the Brazilian Government for 1,016 machines. The order is for a fleet of backhoe loaders which will be used to improve the road infrastructure in the country. The first 114 have now been delivered.

700 new jobs - £125m investment
Vauxhall Motors has confirmed that 700 jobs will be created at its factory in Ellesmere Port, Merseyside. The factory will work an additional shift in order to build the new Astra, with assembly of the new car scheduled to start in 2015.

Yorkshire-based Angloco has secured additional funding from Barclays after winning a £16m contract. Angloco supplies fire-fighting and rescue vehicles worldwide and Barclays is providing trade facilities to support exports. The ongoing expansion of the company could create employment opportunities. Angloco employs 70 staff and has turnover of £16m.

Ellesmere Port factory safeguarded - 100s new jobs - new Astra model
General Motors has indicated that the future of Vauxhall factory in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire is secure, along with 2,100 jobs. The manufacturer is expected to confirm the creation of hundreds more jobs at the plant. The factory is expected to produce the new Astra, along with a factory in Poland, from 2015.

New training academy - 230 jobs created
Aston Martin has opened a 1,400 sq m new training academy in Gaydon, Warwickshire, to train new employees. 230 new jobs have been created by the transfer of production of the Rapide model from Austria to Gaydon. Training will be carried out by staff recruited from the company's own production lines.

Possible production increase - securing 2,100 jobs
Vauxhall is nearing an agreement with unions that could secure the future of 2,100 jobs at its Ellesmere Port car plant. The talks concern working practices at the plant, including the introduction of a third shift to increase both efficiency and production. Owner General Motors has committed to running the Cheshire plant until 2014.

Global sales reach record levels - profit increased to £585m - positive outlook
Nissan recorded global sales of 4.8 million units in 2011, a record for the company. Net profit increased to 75.3bn yen (£585m) in the 2012 first quarter, up from 30.8bn yen a year earlier, helped by expansion into fast-growing markets. Nissan outperformed rivals Toyota and Honda and expects an even better performance in 2012.

7.6m funding secured - major expansion in north west - potential new jobs
Car retailer Halliwell Jones is expanding in Southport, Warrington and Chester after securing 7.6m funding from the Co-operative Bank. The funding is part of a 9.2m investment in its dealerships which is expected to create new jobs over three years. 2011 turnover was 186m, 330 employees.

Net Profit up to £1.15bn - Revenue up 10 percent
German car and truck maker Daimler has recorded a rise in profits thanks in part to sales at its Mercedes-Benz division. Net profit for the first three months of the year was £1.15bn, up 20% on a year earlier. Revenue rose almost 10% and sales of Mercedes hit a record 338,300 units.

3% sales growth - strong sales of 107 model
Peugeot sales increased by 2% to 18,969 in March 2012, and by 3.2% to 29,411 for the year to date. Sales of the 107 model increased by 28% in March 2012. The increase follows a Drive Away Happy marketing campaign. 2010: turnover £1,36bn, 566 employees.
