£60m order - 1016 machines for Brazilian Government
Excavator manufacturer JCB has secured a £60m order with the Brazilian Government for 1,016 machines. The order is for a fleet of backhoe loaders which will be used to improve the road infrastructure in the country. The first 114 have now been delivered.

Placed into administration - cashflow difficulties
Cambridgeshire-based motor sports companies Lola Cars International Ltd and Lola Composites Ltd have been placed into administration, putting jobs at risk. The companies have experienced financial difficulties due to the economic downturn and the loss of R&D tax credits from HMRC. Discussions will continue with possible investors and prospective purchasers.

Profit rises 93 per cent - Revenue increases 26 per cent - Earnings up 10 per cent
German car company Volkswagen has recorded a 10 per cent rise in group operating earnings to 3.21bn euros. Profit before tax rose 93% to 4.3bn euros on revenue that was up 26% to 47.3bn euros. The companys revenue was assisted by strong sales of its upmarket Audi brand.

Sales fall £3m - Profit down £7.4m
Brake manufacturer TMD Friction UK, based in Cleckheaton in West Yorkshire, has recorded a £3.2m fall in sales to £78m as a result of a drop in exports and private label business during 2011. Pre tax profit for the year fell from £8.4m to £1m as a result of charges for depreciation of assets.

UK revenue increased to £152m - profits growth - positive outlook
Staffordshire-based Leoni Wiring Systems UK recorded profits and turnover growth in 2011. Earnings (before interest and tax) increased 43% to £21.4m in 2011, while pre-tax profits increased from £13.6m to £20.6m. Turnover increased from £153m to £188m during the year while UK revenue increased to £152m from £126m in 2010.

Profit up 19% to £142m - Revenue up 17% to £1.74m
Car and plane parts maker GKN posted a 19% rise in first-quarter profit to £142m, driven by a strong performance from its automotive business and acquisitions made in 2011. Revenues rose 17% to £1.74bn. The autos unit reported a 28% rise in profits due to strong growth in luxury car sales.

Sales up 12.5% to 862,700 - demand falls in Western Europe
Volkswagen, Europes largest automobile manufacturer, achieved a record increase in group sales in the 2012 first quarter, helped by increased demand from North America, Russia, and China. Total sales in March 2012 rose 12.5% to a record 862,700. Sales in Western Europe fell 4.7%. 2010: turnover £6.48bn, 531 employees.

New Global Sales Director appointed
GKN Wheels, based in Telford in Shropshire, has appointed Simon Harvey as Global Sales and Marketing Director. Mr Harvey was previously Business Development Director at US based automotive engine, chassis and driveline provider Metaldyne Corporation and was responsible for Europe and Asia. GKN Wheels is a part of GKN Land Systems division of manufacturing giant GKN.

Revenues increase to £492.5m - profits up 530% to £21.6m - exceptional business growth
Worcestershire-based steel wheel manufacturer Titan Europe achieved a 530% increase in pre-tax profits from £2.6m in 2010 to £21.6m in 2011. Revenues increased to £492.5m in 2011 from £355.2m in 2010. Business is now in line with pre-recession trading levels. Titan Europe has a strong order book and expects further progress in 2012.

£2m investment - New Equipment - Turnover £689.6m
Construction equipment firm JCB is investing £2m in new equipment at a Wrexham factory. JCB Transmissions has two plants in the town, one producing gear boxes, the other axles. The company will install a new machine capable of producing 130 axles per day. Stuart Hughes is Director.
