New £430m contract - Outsourcing plans for UK retailer
International service company Serco, based in Hook in Hampshire, has produced a contract which will involve contact centres being outsourced in a £430m deal. The Business Process Oursourcing (BPO) contract has been made to improve efficiency of customer contact services for Shop Direct Group, a UK retail company. Christopher Hyman is Chief Executive of the Serco Group.

Vigalab Mineral Laboratory acquired - expansion in Chile
Intertek, which provides quality and safety solutions, has acquired Vigalab, a Chile-based minerals testing laboratory. The acquisition strengthens Interteks international minerals capabilities and extends its delivery of quality solutions in support of the expanding market in Latin America. Intertek recorded turnover of £1.7bn in 2011 and had 31,712 employees.

£4bn contracts secured - potential new jobs - ongoing business growth

4.3% sales growth - improvement in UK revenues
France-based technology outsourcing company Capgemini recorded sales of £2bn in the 2012 first quarter, up 4.3% from the 2011 first quarter. UK & Ireland revenues increased 3.9%, a significant improvement from 2011 when revenues were flat. 2010 turnover £1.6bn, 7,632 employees.

£1bn sorting office disposal - planned housing development
Royal Mail Group is selling off half its 12-acre sorting office site in central London for development into flats, netting the group up to £1bn. The redevelopment is not expected to be completed until after the company is privatised, causing concern that the proceeds of asset sales might not be reinvested in the company. 2011 turnover £6.86bn, 165,383 employees.

Shop Direct contract secured - ecommerce expansion - 1,800 employees to transfer
Serco Group has been appointed by home shopping retailer Shop Direct to deliver its customer contact programme. The group will invest in technological innovation at Shop Direct which is expanding its ecommerce activities. 1,800 Shop Direct staff will transfer to Serco, which may move some work overseas.

Group profits more than double - Revenue rises 2.4 per cent - Loss made at parcel delivery division
Pre tax profit at Rentokil Initial, the Crawley based pest control and courier group, has increased by approximately 150 per cent to 13.4m in the first three months of 2012, up from 5.4m in the same period in 2011. The company has reported a 2.4 per cent increase in revenue from 609.7m in 2011 to 624.4m. The companys parcel delivery business City Link has recorded an 18.7 per cent drop in adjusted operating profit and has noted a loss of 12.7m. Alan Brown is Rentokil Chief Executive.
