Retailer Asda is planning to open a new store in the Quintins Shopping Centre, Hailsham, East Sussex, as part of its UK expansion strategy. Up to 150 new jobs will be created at the new store, which will be located in a previously used by the Co-op. 2010 turnover £20.5bn, 283,096 employees.

Retailer Morrisons is consolidating bakery production at its site in Wigan, in order to increase production. Its bakery in Wakefield will expand by 41,250 sq ft but the Wigan bakery will close down with 160 job losses. The company hopes to relocate as many Wigan staff as possible. 2011 turnover £16.48bn, 132,074 employees.

Retail giant Debenhams is expecting to move into a 30,000 square foot store at a retail park is earmarked for land in Scunthorpe with work due to begin in October 2012. The company expect to begin trading in 2013 creating around 80 jobs.

Tesco is opening a new Express store in Maidenhead, Berkshire, in summer 2012, with the expected creation of new jobs. The expanding retailer owns more than 2,700 stores across the country. Tesco recorded turnover of £60.9bn in 2011 and had 384,389 employees.
