Birmingham Science Park is expanding its photonics team and creating and developing new revenue streams. Paul Williams has been appointed to the new post of Business Development Manager. Dr David Hardman MBE is the chief executive.

Student accommodation provider Unite Group expects Olympic contracts to add up to £1.75m to its revenue. A total of 3,600 of its rooms will be used in relation to the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Unite is acquiring two planned schemes in Stratford and Camden and has secured a £121m debt facility with Legal & General. 2010 turnover £193.4m, 913 employees.

Peel Holdings is to cut 15 security staff at MediaCityUK in Salford, Greater Manchester after a review of security levels. The security contract is with G4S, which intends to re-deploy as many officers as possible. The changes are to take affect from 1st July 2012.

Banks Renewables, part of the Banks Group, has completed a 21.9m agreement with The Co-operative Bank to fund the construction of the Penny Hill Wind Farm in South Yorkshire. Thirty new jobs are expected to be created as a direct result. Completion is expected by the end of 2013.
